Funding options for your start-up in Germany.
Germany offers many programmes for founders: grants towards living costs, funded coaching and low-interest loans. Which ones apply depends on your situation, including your residence status and whether you receive benefits. Here is an overview; in a consultation we look at your case.

No funding promises
Funding decisions are made solely by the responsible bodies, such as the employment agency, the job centre or a development bank. Many programmes are discretionary. We tell you what may be possible and help with documents; we cannot promise approval.
The main routes.
Employment agency
Start-up grant (Gründungszuschuss)
For people receiving unemployment benefit who become self-employed full time. Requires, among other things, an expert statement on viability.
Employment agency / job centre
Funded coaching (AVGS voucher)
With an activation and placement voucher, start-up coaching with an accredited provider can be funded.
Job centre
Einstiegsgeld
For people receiving citizen's income (Bürgergeld) who start a business. The job centre decides whether and how much is paid.
KfW and development banks
Development loans
Low-interest loans for founding and growth, applied for through your bank. A convincing business plan is required.
Federal states
Regional programmes
Start-up scholarships, micro-loans and consulting grants, which differ from state to state.
Universities
University spin-offs
Programmes for founders from universities and research institutions, for example scholarships for technology-based start-ups.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get funding as a foreign founder?
Often yes, depending on your residence status and situation. Some programmes are tied to benefits you receive in Germany, others to the location of your business.
Do I have to apply before I start?
For many programmes, yes. Do not register your business before you know which funding you might lose by doing so.
